JAGUAR PRO ONLY
JAGUAR contains a builtin scanner subsystem
which can be used to produce a detailed offset history for all or selected
frequencies. This scanner subsystem can be used in the MANUAL SCAN or AUTOSCAN
mode.
While MANUAL SCAN can dig out the offset history only from the recorded data,
AUTOSCAN can analyse the selected frequencies live whenever the hardware is
connected. AUTOSCAN is running in the background. The user just defines what
he/she wants and JAGUAR takes care of timing.
HOW TO
AUTOSCAN is defined in AUTOMATIC SCAN SETUP
panel which can be invoked from STATUSBAR > S button.
When the S button is clicked, the user will see a small control panel where
he/she can either quickly disable/enable scans (including AUTOSCAN), or modify
the features of AUTOMATIC SCAN.
AUTOSCAN is the heart and soul of generating the offset history. It is disabled
by default but if you are interested in offsets, this feature is a must for MW
DXers. AUTOSCAN runs independently as specified by the user: the user just
defines the following details on the AUTOSCAN control panel:
• target frequency set (MW10/MW9/VFO)
• time period (FROM - TO) during which AUTOSCAN collects the offset
history
• speed: what is the time interval used for analysis, in seconds
If you choose to enable AUTOSCAN, you can actually monitor the whole MW dial
24x7 even without a single recording. AUTOSCAN uses "shadowing", i.e. temporary
data files on the C drive: a bit stream from Perseus is written to the TEMP
folder (created automatically). JAGUAR maintains two buffer files which are
used for scanning. Nowadays, the C: drives begin to be SSD disks, offering huge
speed improvements. Furthermore, we can get rid of a lot of the I/O burden from
the USB channel/main recording disk. So, this is safer also as far as stability
is concerned. Please whitelist C:\TEMP in your antivirus scanner to allow for a
faster, trouble-free I/O.
The S button has four status modes:
* GRAY - No automatic scans are defined
* GREEN - One or more scan has been activated
* YELLOW - AUTOSCAN has been activated
* RED - AUTOSCAN is analyzing data
Just as with MANUAL SCANs, the results of the AUTOSCAN can be zoomed/viewed on
the EXTENDED spectrum screens. After AUTOSCAN has been run, you can still run
MANUAL SCANs for the data, e.g. if you want increase the resolution for some
parts of the data, provided you have recorded the target time slot: click S to
define and launch a new MANUAL SCAN. Your MANUAL SCAN results will be
integrated into the correct time position in the offset history file used.
You can use ALT-E to rotate the display levels of the offset history - and the
keyboard key E to toggle the current EXTENDED view zoom level and the HOME
screen. EXTENDED DAY has a fixed time frame but EXTENDED is dynamic, showing
only the scanned times on the screen.
The default SPEED in AUTOSCAN is 60 i.e. one FFT sweep per minute. Quite likely
you can go down to SPEED 30 without issues if you do not have an outdated
computer. If you have a high-end computer with an Intel Core i7 processor and
an SSD disk as C:, you can safely go to the ultimate SPEED 8 to generate a very
high resolution offset history for all MW10/MW9 frequencies and have it running
all the time. JAGUAR is designed for the total control of the MW dial 24/7!
You can also schedule the change of the scan target (MW9 <> MW10) in
MESTOR if you want, for example, to scan the MW10 frequencies during the
night/morning and the MW9 frequencies in the afternoon (see MESTOR HELP >
Advanced Usage for more details).
