MAPS

Jaguar's standard map system contains builtin high quality maps with station locations. In addition to the standard maps (as part of the main WALLPAPER rotation), Jaguar supports also access to Great Circle map (see ANTENNAS for more information) and MWLI Logmap (see MWLI for more information). In this section describe only the standard MAPS and the services related to them.

In addition, Jaguar has "alternate mapsystems" (ALT-M) reserved for the documentation of user's DX history (see BEEHIVE and CATMAP help).

The available map continents are as follows:

• World
• Europe
• Africa & Middle East
• Asia
• Oceania
• North America
• Caribbean
• South America

JAGUAR offers three different map styles and two "station pointer" styles (station pointer appears when the mouse cursor is hovered over a station) and a special optional station pointer available for the US stations. Stations are displayed as stars on the maps, and station names will appear next to the star depending on the zoom level. Stars are colored based on user's loggings and other notifications. Any map can be zoomed / relocated.

MAPS system support additional services for any selected station (see STATION MENU for details), US PATTERN support for US radio stations (see PATTERNS for details) and extra information shown between RX QTH and TX QTH (see SETTINS > GRAPHICS+ > MAP TIMES for details).

HOW TO

KEY = W and KEY = M (by default)

Because the standard MAPS are an essential part of Jaguar, the maps can be accessed in many ways.

MAPS are one of the main wallpapers in JAGUAR and the main wallpapers can be rotated by pressing the keyboard key W (rotation = HOME > YAS > MAPS). The wallpapers can also be rotated by clicking the TOOLBAR > W icon.

You can go directly to MAPS by pressing M (if M is not overridden in CUSTOM), or by choosing MAPS from the TOP MENU. In addition, right-clicking the TOOLBAR > W shows a popup menu where MAPS can be selected.

When the map window appears, the currently-active continent will be shown. The continents can be rotated with the keyboard key Q (ALT-Q rotates the continents backward), or left/right clicking or scrolling SLIDER > MAPS. You can also go directly to any continent selecting MAPS from TOP MENU. Each map shows the day/night zone at the time of playback. This zone is automatically updated during the playback.

JAGUAR offers three different map styles: use SLIDER > STYLE to select your favourite. Using SLIDER > CONTRAST you can adjust the darkness of the day/night areas.

When you move the mouse over a map area, you can zoom the map in/out by scrolling the mouse wheel. You can also shift the map’s location by using the mouse’s drag-and-drop functionality.

If there are MW stations in the visible area of the map on the currently-active frequency, those stations will be displayed with a star on the map. The world map only shows stars, the more detailed continental maps also show the station names. The default name shown is the call/short name for each station, full station names will appear when you zoom closer to the desired area.

The stars and names on the map can have different colours, based on user-customisable P-tags (see P-TAGS for more details).

The transmitter power level of each station is indicated by the number of circles around the star: less than 1 kW = no circle; 1-10 kW = one circle; 10-50 kW = two circles, and 50+ kW = three circles.

When the user moves the mouse over a station on the map, by default JAGUAR will show the following details:

• Station name = The Transmitter
• Power of The Transmitter
• Distance from the Receive QTH to the Transmitter
• Bearing from the Receive QTH to the Transmitter
• Sunrise / sunset times (UTC) at the Transmitter location at the playback date

If the user has enabled SETTINGS > GRAPHICS+ > MAP TIMES, JAGUAR will also show the

• Sunrise / sunset times (UTC) at the Receive location at the playback date (if RX QTH is visible on the selected map)
• Great-Circle Line from the Receive QTH to the Transmitter
• NOX time (UTC) on a red circle shown on the great-circle line, the midnight time at the geographical midpoint between the Transmitter and the Receive QTH. NOX time is shown if the midpoint is visible on the selected map. Experience has shown that the midpoint midnight is one of the best potential times to catch good "ultra-long" MW DX stations from the other side of the globe.

User can select a special station pointer for US / Canadian stations from STATION MENU > POINTER => you can see the local time in the transmitter location etc (more details in STATION MENU help).

If the user left clicks a station star, LOGBOX will appear; the same LOGBOX can also be invoked by left clicking a station on the TURTLE database - more details in LOGBOX help.

If the user right clicks a station star, the station popup menu appears; the same popup menu can also be invoked by right clicking a station on the TURTLE database - more details in STATION MENU help.

The map of North America contains an extra "US STAR" button on the bottom right corner of the display. By default this button toggles between CALL <> FORMAT (if available) shown for each station on the map. User can change the functionality of this button to control patterns instead of the text shown (more information about this in PATTERNS help).

You can leave MAPS by rotating to any other main wallpaper by pressing the W key or by pressing M (if M is not overridden by any other function).
