NAVIGATION

During the playback you can reposition the playback time just by clicking the PLAYBAR - this is the most often used function in Jaguar. Note that this is possible also in the LIVE mode, because Jaguar constantly keeps a 10-minute (or 8-minute) temporary recording buffer.

In addition to this basic feature there is a multitude of ways available for navigation both in time and in frequency space. Users' preferences vary, some prefer keyboard navigation, some mouse based navigation - and often these are used as combined.

Basic navigation can be done fully with keyboard keys or with mouse using the PLAYBAR and the TOOLBAR, however normally users utilize every Jaguar display in navigation. Several displays show the mouse cursor based "flag pointer" which often contains frequency and/or time. Whenever the flag pointer has bright color on it, you can jump to that frequency/time by clicking the corresponding spot - this is the "point-and-shoot" method. Note that if the pointer flag colour is dimmed, it usually means that no recording exists at that time so you can't use then this "point-and-shoot" method.

"Point-and-shoot" for frequency is available on

• SCOPE (two SCOPE bars available for jumping to the desired nominal)
• SPECTOR (bottom of the SPECTOR available for jumping to the desired offset without changing the playback time)
• SIXPACK (focus on six user-defined frequencies)

"Point-and-shoot" for time is available on

• TIMEFRAME (jumping within the current DX DAY)
• CONDX display

"Point-and-shoot" for both frequency and time time is available on

• SPECTRA displays
• YAS LOG displays
• DAYLOG list

Detailed description about the displays can be found their own help sections, this help descibes only the basic navigation tools available on the PLAYBAR/SCOPE and TOOLBAR.

HOW TO

SUMMARY: PRIMARY NAVIGATION WITH KEYBOARD KEYS

• Press O to open a new file for playback
• Press L to toggle between LIVE mode and last played ARCHIVE file
• Type a frequency and press enter to jump to that frequency
• Press N or P to jump to the next/previous file
• Press SPACEBAR (or UP ARROW KEYS) to loop a time span

SUMMARY: PRIMARY NAVIGATION WITH MOUSE

• Click TOOLBAR > OPEN to open a new file for playback
• Click TOOLBAR > LIVE<>ARCH to toggle between LIVE mode and last played ARCHIVE file
• Click a frequency from SCOPE to jump to that frequency
• Click TOOLBAR > NEXT FILE or TOOLBAR > PREV FILE to jump to the next/previous file
• Click TOOLBAR > LOOP to loop a time span

Scrolling, either with mouse wheel or left/right arrow keys, can also be used for changing time or tuning frequencies. The scroll target (time or frequency) depends on the mode you have selected: frequency scroll or time scroll. The currently active mode can be easily seen on the PLAYBAR.

FREQUENCY MODE:

TIME MODE:

SUMMARY: SCROLLING WITH KEYBOARD KEYS

• Press Z to select desired scroll mode: frequency scroll or time scroll
• In frequency scroll mode you'll see "(( ))" brackets around the frequency => Scroll frequencies up/down with the left/right arrow keys
• In time scroll mode "(( ))" brackets disappear and you'll see the exact frequency with 4 decimals => Scroll seconds backward/forward with the left/right arrow keys

SUMMARY: SCROLLING WITH MOUSE WHEEL

• Click TOOLBAR > FREQ SCROLL "(( ))" icon to select desired scroll mode: frequency scroll or time scroll
• In frequency scroll mode you'll see "(( ))" brackets around the frequency => Scroll frequencies up/down with the mouse wheel
• In time scroll mode "(( ))" brackets disappear and you'll see the exact frequency with 4 decimals
=> Scroll seconds backward/forward with the mouse wheel

Note that the mouse wheel scroll for time and frequencies is available only when the mouse cursor is over the PLAYBAR (and the color of the PLAYBAR text is white).

You can temporarily steal the focus from the time scroll to the frequency scroll by moving the mouse cursor over the frequency area: the TIME mode is temporarily switched to the FREQUENCY mode ("(( ))" brackets will appear around the frequency) and you can change the frequency with the mouse wheel (or left/arrow keys) until you move the mouse away from the top of the frequency. The control is returned back to the TIME mode ( the "(( ))" brackets disappear).

TIPS:

• Direct entry ot of the hour: you can type any of the full hours 0-23 and press enter => the control will jump to that TOH within the current DX DAY if a recording exists containing the given hour spot

• TIMEWHEEL: Click TOOLBAR > TIMEWHEEL icon to activate this "supertool". When active, TIMEWHEEL can be used to change individual elements of the string on the PLAYBAR by scrolling with the mouse wheel or the arrow keys when the mouse cursor is moved over the element you want to to tune. See more details in TIMEWHEEL help.

• Stepping in frequency scrolling is normally done with 9kHz or 10kHz steps. Stepping mode can be changed clicking TOOLBAR's stepping icons. Some special stepping modes (VFO, SHORTWAVE, SIXPACK and COMPARE) can also be selected from the TOOLBAR - each of these have their own help section.

• TOOLBAR > COBRA can be activated, if you want to select the "best offset" (strongest peak) automatically for the playback on each tuned frequency. See COBRA for more details.

and finally:

• TOOLBAR > JAGRUN script can be selected and activated to fully automate the whole playback process: see JAGRUN for details.
