STREAMER

JAGUAR PRO ONLY (OPTIONAL)

STREAMER is an independent multi-source recorder that can be downloaded from the JAGUAR web site. STREAMER can record/play/save audio from any audio source (also over the internet). NOTE: All PCs do not support this feature.

STREAMER is the simplest possible "global recorder" and it can be used also without JAGUAR. The GUI is intuitive with only six buttons.

One of the basic methods in MW DXing is to compare the LIVE audio signal to the Internet radio stream of the suspected station. In addition, many DXers listen to the Internet radio streams trying to find a match for the announcement/slogan/program which they have found when listening to their SDR recordings. STREAMER can help in making the // recordings, including parts from the JAGUAR audio and parts from the stream or any existing audio file.

HOW TO

INSTALLATION

Go to the JAGUAR home page (https://jaguars.kapsi.fi/) > DOWNLOAD > OPTIONAL FILES and click "STREAMER.zip". After download, unzip the contents into STREAMER folder within your JAGUAR installation folder (if you want STREAMER to be linked with JAGUAR) or unzip it to any folder if you want to use it without JAGUAR.

After starting STREAMER (and having any audio playing in your headphones), you should automatically see the green VU-meter bouncing. However, if you get the error message "Can't find any WASAPI input devices", you can forget this tool and delete the STREAMER folder.

If you don't see the green VU-meter during playback, you can still try one change in the Sound Settings > Headphones > General: "Allow apps and Windows to use this device for audio". In some cases the audio gets muted until you click All devices > Headphones once again and miraculously things may start to work. If you have bad luck, the VU-meter does not come to life (or wakes up only when the audio comes out of the speakers).

But congratulations if you can get STREAMER working, it is a handy tool that will be developed further based on the needs that we encounter in the future. The bar position can be changed by dragging the bar to the desired position.

USAGE

At the moment you can

• Make short or long audio clips - even hours, your RAM is the limit
• Pause/continue recording (or playback)
• Toggle audio recording from JAGUAR vs. STREAM (for example the Jaguar audio can come over the network from your remote site, but the stream can be played on the local PC) --- and/or you can overlap these two audio flows running concurrently into one
• CLIPPER can slow down tempo and/or change the pitch but CLIPPER can't save that slower tempo, but STREAMER can do that: play the audio in CLIPPER and record it with STREAMER (if you haven't realized it yet, slowing down a fast spoken ID can sometimes open up what is actually said in the ID)
• Grab your favorite song from YouTube etc.
• Save the recording as WAV or MP3

What might be done in the future:

• At the moment SETTINGS is grayed, but we can add user-defined sampling rate and stereo support
• More playback support (jump to time and/or scroll back and forth)
• Remember the last STREAMER bar x,y-position at startup
• We can add full integration with Jaguar (toggling audio from stream vs. Jaguar with automatically muting the other)
• Adding the list of favorite streams and direct streaming/playback in STREAMER (not via browser)
• Adding similar stream services what the old JAGUAR V11 STREAMER offered (including scheduled stream recordings and silent stream recording at the same time when Jaguar does the IQ recording and/or you listen to the Jaguar audio)
• Add a three-channel mixer/editor for creating assisted stream // JAGUAR audio clips: two input channels (one channel for the stream audio, one for the JAGUAR audio - extracting parts from both of these channels to the 3rd channel (=output clip containing the result)
