VSTORE

By default JAGUAR records files to the "primary disk" as defined in SETTINGS > BEGINNING > REC_DSK (the first disk listed in that parameter). When that disk becomes full, the system switches automatically to the "secondary disk" (the 2nd disk listed in the REC_DSK parameter).

Many MW DXers record several hours every day during the MW season ("disk by disk") and change/add new external disk when also the secondary disk becomes full. After the MW season they may have many external disks full of recordings even though really good days (that really need to be saved for a longer period) are few. Wouldn't it be nice to have only one single external disk containing only the "good DX days" when the MW season ends ?

VSTORE (= Valuable Store) is an alternative way to control recordings / disks. In this method we always record to only one internal disk, preferably SSD (= the first disk listed in REC_DSK) and the secondary disk serves as a VSTORE. Only unstudied days and/or "good DX days" will be saved to VSTORE, either manually or automatically. The secondary disks are normally slower external HDDs.

VSTORE recording system offers performance benefits (no data writes over USB when recording and if using a SSD disk, disk writes and LIVESCANs are always fast), careless-free maintenance of the recordings and finally we'll get one external disk containing only the recordings that need to be archived - with minimal effort.

HOW TO

In order to use VSTORE, you have to upgrade to the CUSTOM level and add the VSTORE-parameter:

VSTORE = YES | NO | hour

Default is NO. If you define YES, the system records only to the primary REC_DSK and you have the manual VSTORE functions available in CONDX > MW STATS (see MW_STATS for further details).

You can also define some hour (0-24) as the VSTORE parameter. If you define the hour, the system again always records only to the primary REC_DSK, you have the manual VSTORE functions available in CONDX > MW STATS but in addition, the system moves automatically the "unstudied DX days" or "good DX days" to the VSTORE disk. The "hour" is some hour where there is not much other activity on the PC. You can also do the manual deletes/moves whenever you want but if you don't ever do them, even then the primary rec disk will never become full: every day at hour'00'00 (where "hour" is that hour defined in the VSTORE parameter), the system will check if the disk fill factor exceeds 95% and if so, the automatic MOVE is done to the oldest day in the primary disk.

Using VSTORE

You'll always record to the same disk (preferably fast SSD) and it will never get 100% full
At the end of the season you'll have the "unstudied DX days" and/or the "best DX days" archived in the separate external HDD (for further studies/permanent storage)
No problem if you'll get tons of "good DX days" in one season: just change the 2nd disk in SETTINGS > BEGINNING > REC_DSK and the system starts to use that as the VSTORE
